ESX is Ethiopia’s first, and only organized securities exchange. ESX is being established as a public private partnership in line with Article 31 of the Capital Market Proclamation (No.1248/2021).
ESX operates the business of a securities exchange, functions as a Self-Regulatory Organization (“SRO”) and serves as the central market organizer providing an integrated product suite covering the equities, fixed income, and money market segments of the capital markets.
As the pioneer securities exchange, ESX aims to play a critical role in the development and growth of the Ethiopian capital markets. ESX’s core objective is to facilitate access to capital and support effective capital allocation in a manner that supports Ethiopia’s economic growth. By developing a well-regulated and efficient capital market ecosystem, ESX will enable mobilization of financial resources for both public and private sector institutions while providing investors a reliable platform to invest in a reliable and efficient environment
Job Summary
The role supports risk management at the ESX by contributing to the development and implementation of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework in line with international standards. The position is responsible providing technical guidance to departments on risk identification and mitigation, analyzes loss incidents, delivers risk management training, and supports planning and budgeting activities for the Risk function, while performing additional duties as required. - Participate in the development and/or revision of ESX’s ERM Framework based on internationally accepted standards and practices.
- Develop risk management and related procedures.
- Prepare annual and ahoc risk assessment and regular monitoring reports by reviewing risk mitigation activities and limits.
- Provide technical support to 1st line risk teams/departments in the preparation of risk register of their respective departments based on the ERM framework.
- Develop and maintain corporate level risk register of ESX.
- Gather and review risk assessment and risk mitigation progress reports from Risk Assessment Units (Departments) and produce corporate level risk assessment report.
- Conduct analysis of actual/materialized loss incidents of ESX.
- Prepare executive level risk monitoring reports that are precise, accurate and tailored to the Board of Directors, Executive Management and Regulator’s need and present to the Board of Directors and Executive Management as deemed necessary.
- Arrange/Deliver training on risk management for employees of the ESX as deemed necessary.
- Prepare/Review annual plan and budget of the Risk Team and the progress report thereon.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualification and experience:
- MA/MBA/BA in Economics, Management, Business Administration, Finance, accounting or related field.
- Minimum of 5/7 years of working experience (preferably in capital markets and/or financial sector) of which at least 3 years’ experience in risk management.
- Strong understanding of securities markets, trading operations, and risk management principles.
- Knowledge of Ethiopian financial regulations, international risk frameworks (e.g., COSO, ISO 31000), and risk assessment methodologies.
- Proficiency in risk analysis tools, data visualization, and risk reporting is advantageous.
